Lyveden is buzzing with family fun this Easter

There’s a real buzz in the air at Lyveden this spring as the National Trust property unveils its brand new Easter trail, themed entirely around the fascinating world of bees. Open from Saturday 5 April to Monday 21 April, this imaginative family experience is already delighting visitors and bringing the Elizabethan estate to life with colour, creativity and outdoor adventure.

Egg and bee trail by the manor

Families are invited to ‘join the colony’ and explore a fun-filled trail featuring ten bee-themed activities across the historic grounds. Children can learn how bees communicate by trying out their own waggle dance, gather Velcro pollen in friendly competitions, race in bee-and-spoon relays, dress up in costume, and more. Each trail costs £3.50 and includes a trail sheet, a pair of bunny ears, and a choice of a dairy or vegan Free From chocolate egg. Standard admission charges apply.

One happy visitor over the opening weekend commented, “It’s always a lovely day out, but the Easter trail really made it special.”

In addition to the trail, Lyveden is bringing back its popular Outdoor Tuesdays and Craft Thursdays throughout the Easter holidays. For just £2, visitors can join volunteers to create seed bombs, bug hotels and other nature-friendly crafts—perfect for little hands and curious minds.

Connor, Senior Visitor Experience Officer at Lyveden, shared more about what to expect this season:

“With the arrival of spring, the Elizabethan gardens start to come to life. Lyveden’s heritage orchard will see its many tree varieties bloom in succession, creating a rolling calendar of spectacles to enjoy throughout the season. Visitors can also explore a small pop-up exhibition in the manor red room to learn about the orchard’s history and even try their hand at blossom origami.”

The Manor at Lyveden

Upstairs in the manor house, visitors will find Reimagine, a vibrant new exhibition from Tresham College, offering fresh perspectives on Lyveden’s story. The second-hand bookshop will also be open, with shelves full of carefully selected titles to browse at leisure.

Lyveden is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. For more details about visiting and what’s on this Easter, head to Lyveden’s page on the National Trust website.

Whether you're coming for the bees, the blossom or the books, Lyveden is the perfect springtime destination for families in Northamptonshire and beyond.
